Volunteering with the Center for Positive AgingStatewide, 10% of the total population of Georgia is over the age of 65. Between 1990 and 2000, the population over age 65 in the ten county metropolitan area of Atlanta alone increased by 30%. According to projected census, Georgia is getting older faster than the overall United States. By the year 2030, one in five residents will be over the age of 60. There is a silent number here too: the increase in caregivers for aging parents and family members. Our community needs support.
